Norway has been a nation of seafarers for thousands of years, and fishing traditions have been passed down from generation to generation with great passion. The country is blessed with 51,500 miles of beautiful coastline, thanks to countless islands, islets and fjords, and the cold, clear waters are the perfect environment for salmon and other seafood to thrive.
The knowledge and expertise that the Norwegians have gathered over such a long period of time provided them with the ideal foundation to think ahead to the future – the obvious route to sustainability for the salmon fishing industry was ocean-based salmon farms, of which there are now several hundred along the coastline.
